Workforce Council Launched

The Calgary and Edmonton Chambers of Voluntary Organizations are pleased to announce the launch of the Alberta Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Workforce Council. The Council will be a collaborative platform for the nonprofit and voluntary sector to develop a high performance, sustainable workforce and will create a forum for sharing information and resources to foster collaboration on common workforce issues. The Council is a key piece of sector infrastructure which creates the opportunity to engage a broad range of organizations, associations, and educational institutions, to work together to address workforce issues.

Comments needed on changes to current nonprofit accounting standards

The Ontario Nonprofit Network and Imagine Canada have created a position paper on the Accounting Standard's boards An Invitation to Comment: Financial Reporting by Not-For-Profit Organizations, and are looking for sector feedback before submitting the document.

 

 

Research and Resources

Participate in a new national nonprofit salary survey

The annual Boland Survey of Not for Profit Salaries provides confidential salary data for more than 60 positions, along with comprehensive information about turnover, training, hours of work, paid time off, policies and benefits. To participate contact Peter Boland at (403) 215-0090. Only participating organizations receive the finished report.

 

Vital Signs 2009 - Have your Say

The Calgary Foundation is looking for participants for its 2009 Vital Signs survey. The yearly Vital Signs reports provide a reading of Calgary's strengths and weaknesses today so that we can effectively move toward the city we want to create for ourselves and our children in the future. Contributions to the survey can be made until June 30.

 

Business Activities and Social Enterprise: Towards a New Paradigm

This report from Carter's Charity Law Update looks at what is necessary from a legal and business standpoint for Social Enterprises to move forward in Canada.

 

Charity websites are good multitaskers

A UK study found that charities are using their websites for more diverse functions than ever. Sixty percent of the respondents' websites have an email newsletter, 35% the ability to submit job applications, 33% user registration, 24% a chatroom or online discussion forum, and 18% interactive training courses and games.

They have completed their academics for the Network Technician, Object Oriented Software Developer and Technology Infrastructure programs and Database Administration. The TD Friends of the Environment Foundation supports local environmental projects and works with people who want to protect and preserve the environment in their own backyard in the areas of Wildlife rehabilitation, Education programs for children, Environmental cleanups, Tree planting campaigns, Conservation and recycling initiatives, and Urban renewal.
