The intersecting rings of our logo represent the network of the CCVO and its membership, and the links that unite us across common issues. Differing spheres of various sizes and colours represent the myriad voluntary sector organizations in Calgary connecting within and across sectors, with differing levels of government, all contributing their collective strength to a vibrant community.

CCVO Work on Insurance Issues

Alberta Voluntary Sector Insurance Council
CCVO is a member of the Alberta Voluntary Sector Insurance Council, or AVSIC, which brings together the voluntary sector, insurance industry and Government of Alberta to address insurance-related issues affecting the voluntary sector.

AVSIC defines the voluntary sector as groups and organizations whose work is not-for-profit and governed by a board of volunteers. It does not include quasi-governmental groups such as hospitals or universities

The role of AVSIC is to:

  • Link to other provincial & national groups and forums.
  • Facilitate & direct research and data collection.
  • Develop recommendations on improving affordability, accessibility, stability and public policy.

The priority issues for AVSIC include:

  • Securing reliable and accurate data about the voluntary sector’s insurance needs and requirements
  • Ensuring the insurance industry has a better understanding of the voluntary sector
  • Working with the voluntary sector to develop a better understanding of the insurance industry
  • Assessment risk performance and benefits in the voluntary sector

Insurance Toolkit for the Voluntary Sector

In 2006, CCVO developed an insurance toolkit tailored to meet the needs of Alberta's voluntary sector organizations for the Alberta Voluntary Sector Insurance Council (AVSIC). Subsequently, Volunteer Alberta developed an Insurance Toolkit website and hosted a series of workshops across the province.

Voluntary Sector Forum

As a member of the national Voluntary Sector Forum, CCVO is working with colleagues from across the country to address key issues, including insurance and liability.
