Alberta Workforce Council

The Calgary and Edmonton Chambers of Voluntary Organizations launched the inaugural Alberta Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Workforce Council in June 2009. Over the past 6 months, senior nonprofit sector staff and key stakeholders from across Alberta have met as a Steering Committee to develop the foundations for a provincial Workforce Council. The Council will be a collaborative platform for the nonprofit and voluntary sector to develop a high performance, sustainable workforce and will create a forum for sharing information and resources to foster collaboration on common workforce issues. The Council is a key piece of sector infrastructure which creates the opportunity to engage a broad range of organizations, associations, and educational institutions, to work together to address workforce issues. The Alberta Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Workforce Council will:

  • Be the coordinating mechanism by which the nonprofit and voluntary sector will lead the province-wide, cross-sectoral, implementation of the Workforce Strategy for Alberta’s Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector;
  • Be a mechanism to develop relationships with other industry sectos that rely upon the work of the nonprofit sector; and,
  • Act as a convener and facilitator working to establish connections and synergies between local, provincial and national workforce initiatives.

The initial Alberta Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Workforce Council is comprised of a diverse group of organizations and individuals who understand sector workforce issues and are committed to working collaboratively to find long term solutions.
