Vibrant Communities Calgary and Action to End Poverty in Alberta have released a report titled Poverty Costs that encourages decision-makers and all Albertans to consider the financial efficacy of poverty reduction policies currently in place. The report estimates the Total Yearly External Costs of Poverty in Alberta to be between 7.1 and 9.5 billion dollars, and states that low-income Albertans are continuing to fall further behind the average Albertan. The Ministry of Human Services is currently developing a social policy framework. Their submissions to the social policy framework can be found on the Action to End Poverty in Alberta website and the Vibrant Communities Calgary blog.
