Mark Lisac Maps Alberta's Changing Political Landscape

February 8, 2012

Alberta's MLA's headed back to the Legislature this week with budget and election talk in the air. On Tuesday, January 31, Mark Lisac, editor of the weekly "Insight into Government" newsletter, made a timely presentation on Alberta's changing political landscape, as part of CCVO's Policy Series.

Lisac spoke to the new Premier's approach to government - aggressively tackling a number of major issues facing government, fiscal responsibility, operating with greater transparency and more openness to engaging with community stakeholders. Health and education are expected to dominate the upcoming spring election.  Energy policy, provincial funding to municipalities, land reform, and fiscal responsibility will also be key voter issues.

This openness to consultation and broader community input provides opportunities for nonprofits to share new ideas and approaches with government; however, Lisac suggested that collaborative approaches, alliances with other stakeholders and positions and proposals that focus on increased efficiencies will resonate best in this environment.
