CCVO Mayoral Candidates Forum

The CCVO Mayoral Candidate Forum on September 22 was a great opportunity for Calgary's nonprofit/voluntary sector to hear what the candidates had to say about nonprofit issues and concerns. More than 120 people showed up to hear 10 of the 15 mayoral candidates speak on issues ranging from pesticide control and domestic violence to integration of new immigrants and recreation infrastructure.

Transforming Leadership Structure

On September 9, CCVO hosted an HR Community of Practice event on “Transforming Leadership Structure”. Twenty people participated in an intriguing discussion about re-thinking nonprofit organizations and leadership to meet the needs of the future. Mike Grogan provided an overview of the concepts of change as well as the current trends influencing our workforce. The discussion centred around the current characteristics of organizational structure, organizational leadership and leadership skill sets that will be required in the future.

CCVO AGM

Our 6th Annual General Meeting on June 21 left the more than 100 attendants with a sense of hope and optimism about the voluntary sector. After hearing highlights of 2009-2010 from CCVO's President and CEO Katherine van Kooy and listening to keynote speaker Martha Parker, guests were challenged to find new, positive ways to talk about the sector.
