Federal Blue Ribbon Panel Makes Recommendations about Grants and Contributions
Do you receive federal grants or contributions? You may be interested in looking at a new report released by a Federal Government’s Independent Blue Ribbon Panel on Grants and Contributions. The report, From Red Tape to Clear Results, sets out a number of recommendations for government about fundamental change in the administrations of G&Cs simplifying the administration of G&Cs while improving accountability; and the need for political and public service leadership on these changes. Federal Government Launches Online Pre-Budget Consultations Closing Feb. 28
The Federal Government is seeking online feedback for the 2007 Federal Budget. It is anticipated that the budget will be released in late March. Visit the Department of Finance online to learn more or submit feedback
Provincial STEP Funding Available for Sector Deadline Feb. 28
Alberta’s nonprofits and charities can apply for provincial Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) funding to help offset the cost of hiring support for 6 weeks between April 30 and August 31. For details and an application, visit the Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry website.

New Imagine Canada Study about Community Investment
Imagine Canada has released Business Contributions to Canadian Communities: Findings from a qualitative study of current practices- a new report that looks at how businesses are supporting charities and nonprofits, why and how do they do it, and what are their challenges. The study reveals a diverse set of practices and motivations for community investment and shows that, for many businesses, community investment has its challenges. Volunteer Calgary has released a revised media guide that is a comprehensive directory of media contacts and community associations throughout Calgary. The revised guide contains more media contacts than ever before and an expanded section offering tips and tools to communicate with media more effectively.
