Government News

New Alberta Cabinet Announced

The new Alberta government cabinet features novice and experienced ministers; reorganized portfolios; and seven new ministries, which include Culture and Community Spirit, Housing and Urban Development, and Aboriginal Relations.

Funding Preserved for Nonprofit Surveys

Good News! The 2008 Federal budget secures continued funding through Statistics Canada for the Canadian Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Participation (CSGVP) and the Satellite Account. Thank you to all the organizations that wrote to Minster Prentice to "Save the CSGVP"!

Nonprofit Turnover Lower than Private Sector’s

The average job turnover rate among nonprofit employers is 21 percent, less than half the average for private industry, according to new study from Opportunity Knocks.

Online Ethics Resources

EthicsWeb.ca is portal to a range of high-quality ethics resources on particular topics, including environmental ethics, health ethics, business ethics, and more. The American Ethicsworld.org is a good source of articles and resources on business ethics and CSR, while the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network has recently added new resources.

UK Nonprofit Sector Expects Increased Funding and Staffing
Blackbaud recently released its first ever UK State of the Not-for-profit Industry Survey, gathering responses from more than 200 British non-profit organizations. Respondents shared expected overall increases in all aspects of income, expenditure, staffing and demands on the organizations.

Volunteering in United States Grows Significantly
Volunteering in the U.S.A. is up by 10% according to a new survey by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Of the 1,000 adults polled, 74% indicated that they participated in some form of voluntary service in 2007.
