CCVO 2007 Membership Survey
CCVO is working with Barrington Research Group to survey members and non-members to hear your views on our work and your ideas about future directions. Seeking Sector Feedback- MOUs with Calgary Police Service
Feedback from CCVO members indicates that the Calgary Police Service is reviewing and cancelling a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for Police Information Checks (for volunteers). Has your organization’s MOU been cancelled or changed recently? Please let CCVO know as we are assessing how many organizations are affected by changes to the Calgary Police Services agreements. CCVO Provides Feedback for 2007 Federal Budget
On February 28, CCVO submitted feedback to the Federal Government as part of the 2007 Pre-Budget Consultations. The submission includes recommendations about changes to capital gains tax, implementation of the recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Panel on Grants and Contributions, support for Imagine Canada’s sector investment proposal, and ongoing support for the National Survey of Nonprofit and Voluntary Organization (NSNVO). Senate Report on Anti-Terrorism Addresses Charities
A new Senate Report, Fundamental Justice in Extraordinary Times reports that there have been no denials or revocations of charitable status under the Charities Registration (Security Information) Act, which is Part VI of the Anti-terrorism Act. No amendments to the Act are recommended. However, the Report recommends that, in the event that a charity’s status is denied or revoked under these Anti-terrorism laws, a special advocate should be able to participate in the proceedings to help ensure that procedural farness is observed. HR Council Seeking Feedback about Website
The Human Resources Council for the Voluntary /Nonprofit Sector is seeking opinions and advice from current and future users of the HR Council website (www.hrcouncil.ca) to ensure that the HR related tools, information and resources on the site are responsive to the needs of the individuals and organizations in the sector. A focus group is planned in Calgary on the afternoon of Monday, March 26. If you are able to participate, please contact Monique Stone mstone@paceconsulting.ca. If you are unable to attend the focus group and want to share your comments, contact the HR Council and they will issue you a web survey to collect your feedback.
New Resources
How to Undertake Public Involvement
The Canadian Policy Research Network (CPRN) has released A Learning Guide to Public Involvement in Canada, a new tool for anyone starting from scratch to develop a public involvement project. The guide is a self-managed reference tool with web links to most of the sources cited. The guide includes an overview of the theory of public involvement, practical examples, a glossary, some insight into the latest trends and instruction on how to apply public involvement methods to a specific purpose. CRA Releases New Guide to Completing Charity Information Return (T3010A)
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has released an updated and revised guide to help charities fill out their Charity Information Return (form T3010A). Visit CRA online to download the full guide (guide #T4033A)
New Statistics About Seniors
A new Statistics Canada report, A Portrait of Seniors in Canada, suggests that over the coming years, what it means to be a "senior" could undergo an important re-assessment, especially as the baby boom generation turns 65. The report includes information about social and civic engagement including organizational involvement, volunteering and giving and political engagement. New Data About Poverty in Canada
The Canada Council on Social Development (CCSD) has released Community Profiles- the first product from the Urban Poverty Project. It provides 2001 Census data on 13 critical social indicators in a concise fact sheet format for 111 places in Canada, including Calgary, Alberta, and other regions and provinces.
