Policy Action Alert:
Concerns about CRA’s Proposed Fundraising Policy
As we have reported in previous email bulletins CRA has released a Proposed Policy on Fundraising by Charities and is seeking comments by August 31. CCVO has a number of concerns with the policy, including the increased administrative requirements, and we are working with a coalition of charities from across Canada to respond to CRA. If your organization has concerns about the policy you would like us to share with CRA, please contact Kim Mustard at kmustard@calgarycvo.org or by calling 403-261-6655 ext 228.
Alberta Government announces new and expanded arts project grants
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) has expanded a number of its grant programs and added a new Aboriginal program using the additional funding received through Alberta’s cultural policy - The Spirit of Alberta.
RFP Process forms for affordable housing funds now available
All Alberta municipalities, as well as nonprofit organizations and industry, can apply for a share of $142 million in provincial capital funding for affordable housing projects. Application forms and information on the RFP process can be found online. Proposals are due September 19, 2008 by 2:00pm.

HR Council launches ACCESS
ACCESS is a free searchable index of non-profit learning, training and development opportunities and providers for the voluntary sector that covers a range of topic areas.
Implementing the Volunteer Code of Canada
Volunteer Alberta has developed a series of templates for organizations to use and adapt to fit their volunteer program. Sample meeting agendas for staff, board members, executive directors and a code of conduct are all available.
Vitalize session handouts now available
Session handouts from last month’s Vitalize conference are now available online.

An article by UK newspaper The Guardian recommends charities harness the power of social media to protect their brands.
Internet Fundraising Has Small Return
A new Giving USA survey found that while the internet is widely used for fundraising, it typically generates low percentage of total funds raised.
New study finds correlation between volunteering and increased donations
The Happiness of Giving: The Time-Ask Effect, a study from the University of Berkley, indicates that people who volunteer their time to a charitable organization are more likely to give larger gifts to the organization than those who only give funds.
Millennials are equally generous as other generations
A new study by the US Centre on Philanthropy has shown that younger philanthropists are as generous as their older counterparts.
