In this July 12 email bulletin from the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations you will find resources and news items for and about the voluntary sector.
Government News
Bill 1: Lobbyist Act
In March 2007, the Government of Alberta introduced Bill 1, the Lobbyist Act, in the Legislative Assembly. A newly released assessment of Bill 1 by the Legal Resource Centre shows the Bill’s potential implications for the nonprofit sector (and its employees, Directors and volunteers) are enormous. While there is no formal consultation process in place, The Muttart Foundation is currently working with sector partners (including CCVO) to respond. Watch for more information to come from CCVO or read the assessment (or a summary on our website). Community Spirit Fund update
Your input is still needed on the Alberta Government’s proposed program to provide matching funds for individual donations. Visit our Fund webpage to learn more and have your say. You can also read a recent Edmonton Journal article saying the Fund may be open to all nonprofits.
