Event: Is it time for Sector Standards? – Jan. 16 morning
CCVO and Imagine Canada are providing an opportunity for you to learn about and provide feedback on potential new standards for charities and nonprofits. Learn more and register.
Event: training on the T3010A charity return – Jan. 22 evening
As part of The Charities File project, CCVO is offering another free training session for charity staff and volunteers who complete the T3010A annual return. Learn more and register.
Event: the Provincial Government Inside Out (Part One) – Jan. 30 morning
Well known political analyst Paul McLoughlin and government relations specialist Hal Danchilla are returning to CCVO to present an updated, lively overview of the current landscape in Alberta politics. This session is ideal for nonprofit leaders, board members, and staff who work in government relations or policy. It will be followed by a Part Two event on Feb. 26. Learn more and register.

CCVO is seeking a Communications and Government Relations Advisor. Apply by Jan. 21 to join a small, energetic organization working on the cutting edge of policy issues affecting Calgary’s nonprofits and charities.
Robyn Crawford, our current Communications Advisor, is leaving CCVO next week. We wish her all the best in her new role at FortisAlberta, and would like to thank her for all her work. Welcome to Joanna Farley
CCVO is pleased to welcome Joanna Farley! As our Program Assistant, Joanna will support CCVO’s growing membership, events, and Online Job Centre. Joanna has a communications degree and joins us from Alberta Education, where she was a documents specialist and administrative support.
Funding
Grants for reducing violence and bullying – apply by Feb. 15
A total of $3 million is available from the Alberta government’s Community Incentive Fund for organizations supporting families through a collaborative response to family violence and bullying.
Professional Development and Resources
MBA students available for organizational change projects in nonprofits
Contact Mike Grogan at CCVO at 261-6655 by Jan. 9 to participate in an Organizational Change project with MBA students at the Haskayne School of Business.
Volunteer Alberta offers two new sessions (in various locations outside Calgary)
Attend Screening Volunteers In – Not Out to help adjust your strategies to risk management and volunteer recruitment. Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement will discuss updated tactics for various aspects of voluntary management. The sessions are running in various locations including Cochrane (Feb. 7), Edmonton (Feb. 1) and Red Deer (Jan. 24). There is no Calgary session, but out-of-town subsidies are available.
ePhilanthropy and eFundraising Summit from Canadian FundRaiser
On Feb. 14 in Calgary, learn how to create a new media strategy for online communications and fundraising. Register before Jan. 30 for the early bird price of $197.

Alberta Emerald Foundation awards – nominations due Feb. 29
The Emerald Awards recognize environmental initiatives by corporations, individuals, nonprofits, schools, community groups and governments.
