CCVO News
Alberta Votes 2008
In preparation for the provincial election on March 3, CCVO has contacted each of the party leaders about their party’s position on issues and opportunities facing the non-profit/voluntary sector. In addition, we recently asked member organizations to complete a survey identifying their main issues and challenges. Watch your email for both the candidate’s answers to the questionnaire, and the outcomes of the survey, which we will be using to shape our post-election government relations communications.

Canada Revenue Agency News
All your (Charitable) Tax Questions Answered here - NEW RESOURCE
The Charities File website is designed to help charitable organizations file their annual Registered Charity Information Returns (the T3010A Package) to the Canada Revenue Agency. The tools available include downloadable learning resources, fact sheets, quizzes, tips and useful links.
CRA – Protecting Charitable Donations
The Canadian Revenue Agency recently issued a press release on its activities safeguarding Canadian’s donations and ensuring charities comply with all charitable tax laws.

The Future Today: Engaging the Next Generation
ATCO Gas’ ninth annual Community Symposium will include topics on engaging and developing the next generation of non-profit organization leaders. It will be held April 22 in Okotoks and April 24 in Vermillion.

Funding and Awards
Canada Council for the Arts releases Three-Year Plan
The Council will distribute an additional $31.5 million over the next year, increasing its funding for operating and project grants, and art groups promoting equality and cultural diversity.
New Fellowship offered through Carold Institute
The Alan Thomas Fellowship funds a one-year sabbatical for a leader in the non-profit to dedicate to research that significantly contributes to the voluntary sector’s profile.
Funding available for facilities upgrades
The Alberta government’s Major Community Facilities Program is a two-year, $280-million lottery-funded program that helps municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and Aboriginal communities plan, upgrade or build major public-use facilities that enhance community life.
Awards available for Caring Companies
Nominate an Alberta business with outstanding community involvement initiatives for the Wild Rose Foundation Corporate Volunteer Award of Excellence.
Research
Canadian giving grows by 20% between 2001 – 2005
According to the National Report on Fundraising Trends and Cost Effectiveness, the largest charities surveyed benefit the most by receiving more than 50% of the funds raised, while the smallest charities surveyed received only 15.6% of all donations.
Corporate Giving in Canada
Imagine Canada has released a new study examining how businesses support Canadian communities. Results show that 91% provide some form of support to Canada's charities and nonprofit organizations.
The Inter-agency Services Collaboration Project
This report investigates the current agency trend of collaborating by sharing resources and information, coordinating services for clients, or integrating service planning or programs.
Public Opinion and Urban Social Issues in Western Canadian Cities
Caring Cities? presents an overview of public opinion regarding urban social challenges, public safety, and quality of life in six western Canadian cities. The findings are drawn from the Canada West Foundation’s Looking West 2007 Survey.

The HR Council for Non-Profit and Voluntary resources has redesigned their website, which now features expanded HR toolkits, additional forums, and a new ‘HR trends’ section.
