Welcome new CCVO Staff!
CCVO is pleased to welcome two new members to our team!
Glenda Blissett joins us as our new Communications Advisor. She will be responsible for development of CCVO’s communications vehicles and strategy, and also media relations development.
Kim Mustard returns to CCVO as Policy Analyst after a 1-year maternity leave. In her new role, she will be responsible for research on cross-sectoral policy issues, responding to government policy at all levels, supporting CCVO’s Policy Series, and developing a variety of resources and tools to help support the sector’s work.
CCVO Membership Renewal reminder!
CCVO would like to remind all current members planning to renew to send in their forms by April 18th so they can be entered into our draw for event gift certificates. CRA releases new guidelines on fundraising expenses
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) released a new summary document setting out the reporting guidelines for fundraising expenses and the process and considerations for determining whether a registered charity's fundraising is acceptable.
CRA’s Charities Directorate Charities Information Sessions
Formerly known as the CRA Charities Directorate Roadshows, these information sessions for registered charities will begin in May 2008. The topics touch on some of the daily issues and legal requirements faced by charities, and they are aimed at everyone working for, or with, a charity - whether as a volunteer, a Treasurer, a Board Member, or an officer of the charity.
Imagine Canada collecting survey responses on CRA guidelines
Imagine Canada is conducting a survey on Canadian charities’ familiarity with the CRA’s Charities Directorate’s requirements, how Imagine Canada can help to raise awareness of the requirements, and what kind of information would be most valuable to Canadian charities. The survey takes 15 minutes to complete.
New Brunswick Delivers Blueprint
New Brunswick’s new Minister of Community Non-Profit Organizations has released Delivering on the Blueprint, a response to the Premier’s task force report Blueprint for Action. The new report’s recommendations include strategies for the Stabilization of Funding, Respect and Recognition, A Culture of Volunteering, and Revitalizing the partnership between the sector and Government.

Banff Centre offers non-profit scholarships
The Banff Centre’s Leadership Development programs have a limited number of partial scholarships available for non-profit leaders from registered charitable organizations. Scholarship recipients will receive 50 per cent off tuition and accommodation. This funding does not apply to organizations with a focus on the arts. Programs must be completed by June 30, 2008.

Keep Your Donors
This day-long seminar offered through AFP will help you explore strategies for improving your donor retention rate. The event will be held at the Delta Calgary South, on May 7th. Contact Gina or Susan at 297-1033 for more information.
Call for funding proposals: Enabling Accessibility Fund
The federal Office for Disability Issues is launching a new program called the Enabling Accessibility Fund, which will support community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility and allow for greater participation of all Canadians in the community and the economy.

Plannedgiving.com is a site that provides planned giving information to small and medium nonprofits through free articles, downloadable resources, and links.
Donner Awards informational briefing
The Donner Canadian Foundation Awards for Excellence in the Delivery of Social Services will be holding an information session at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on April 15th on applying for the award.
Major donors prefer Internet giving
An American survey of more than 3,000 major donors reveals that 80% make both online and offline donations, 72% believe online donations are more efficient, and 51% prefer to give online. The report also found that many respondents appreciate receiving email reminders about annual giving opportunities.

HR Council releases new report
The HR Council for the Voluntary & Non-profit Sector’s current labour force study will shape strategies to attract, develop and retain appropriately qualified people to work in the voluntary and nonprofit sector. Toward a Labour Force Strategy for Canada's Voluntary and Non-Profit Sector is the first of three reports expected from the results of the study.
Canada West Foundation releases new report
State of the West 2008 provides detailed information about individual western provinces, the region as a whole, how the region has changed and how it compares to the other parts of the country.
Heritage institutions remain constant in generating revenue
Data released by Statistics Canada shows that in 2006, heritage institutions in Canada generated operating revenues of just over $1 billion, up 1.3% from 2005. Not-for-profit institutions made up 88% of the total operating revenue.
Canada Needs Alternative Social Policy Architecture?
Canada’s current social security system may need fundamental changes to meet the challenges and stresses emerging in the 21st century. Cynthia Williams explores this theme in Asset-building Approaches and the Search for a New Social Policy Architecture in Canada.
