CCVO Celebrates 5 years at 2009 AGM

This presentation was delievered at the event Insight into Working with the City of Calgary- Part I on October 9, 2008.

The City of Calgary is reviewing its Business Tax exemption and proposed changes would mean over 200 of Calgary’s nonprofit organizations would no longer be exempt, and would be required to pay business tax starting in 2010.

This manual and tool-kit aimed at helping voluntary sector leaders increase their understanding of the structure, processes, priorities and key players of local, provincial and federal governments and provides tools for developing and influencing public policy strategy.

A resource kit filled with eight “best practice” stories and tips from community groups working to get their issues on the government agenda. The stories range from family violence to injury prevention to youth sexuality. Several address cultural and language issues.
