Recent articles in the Calgary Herald regarding aldermanic "Report Cards" and expenditures have raised concerns with a number of organizations. Because CCVO has been approached by other groups about this coverage, we would like to share a modified version of an unpublished submission to the Herald's Opinion-Editorial page.

Bill C-4, the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, has passed its third Reading in the Senate and received Royal Assent this month. The Bill should become law shortly.

Press Release on the Launch of the Alberta Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Workforce Council.

CCVO expresses its disappointed about $9.5 million loss to nonprofit and voluntary sector due to funding cuts and program cancellations under the 2009-10 provincial budget.

Bill C-4, the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, passed its third Reading in the Senate and received Royal Assent in June 2009. The Bill should become law shortly. The Bill replaces the place the existing Canada Corporations Act that currently applies to nonprofit organizations. Organizations currently incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act have three years to apply for corporate status under the Not-For-Profit Corporations Act. There will be no fees for this process.

The Calgary Chamber of Voluntary of Organizations welcomes an announcement by the Government of Alberta to inject new funding to strengthen the voluntary sector. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture and Community Spirit, the province has committed $20 million annually to the new Donation Grant Program presented in last week’s budget.
