Keynote speaker Bonnie Shiell, Research Manager with the HR Council for the Voluntary and Non-profit Sector provided an overview of her organization's work to address HR issues in the sector, and current challenges including attracting and retaining staff in the sector. She also provided strategies planning tips organizations can use to help plan for their future labour and HR needs.

Katherine van Kooy, Lynn Eakin and Matthew Kealey present findings from the CCVO research study Taking Stock: Examining the Financing of Nonprofit Community Organizations in Calgary that offers insights into how nonprofit organizations in Calgary are financed.

At this event, Katherine van Kooy discussed the insurance-related issues facing the sector. The event included an overview of the key issues and information about the local, provincial and national initiatives to address this issue, and possibilities for the future. CCVO was joined by guest speaker Gael Macleod, and the Q&A session featured Cathy Strand, Account Executive, Toole Peet Insurance.

Keynote Speaker Judith Maxwell, Founding President, Canadian Policy Research Networks (CPRN) presented CPRN's report, Passion and Commitment Under Stress: Human Resource Issues in Canada's Non-profit Sector that examines HR factors that threaten the sustainability of voluntary organizations and suggests measures to relieve the pressure.
