Provincial Government Announces Alberta Voluntary Sector Initiative (ANVSI)
July 18- Alberta’s Minister of Community Development, Denis Ducharme, has launched the Alberta Voluntary Sector Initiative (ANVSI). The ANVSI council consists of non profit/voluntary sector leaders (including CCVO) and Alberta government representatives and they will develop a framework to guide and strengthen the relationship between the Government of Alberta and the province's non profit/voluntary sector. Imagine Canada in the Year 2020
To get Canadians thinking about the challenges the country will face over the coming decades, the Dominion Institute has brought together twenty top thinkers to kick off a debate about what issues, events or trends could fundamentally transform Canada by the year 2020. New Study Looks at Small and Medium Sized Community Organizations (SMOs)
A new CPRN /Imagine Canada study Building Blocks for Strong Communities compares the characteristics, economic and social contributions, and public policy supports for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and SMOs in Canada and in the international context. New Study: Impact of Education on Civic Engagement

Report Indicates Toronto Nonprofit Sector is Starved of Funds
July 17- “On the Front Lines of Toronto's Community Service Sector,” a new report released by Family Service Association of Toronto and the Community Social Planning Council of Toronto, reveals that Toronto's community service sector is being starved of funding while demand for services has grown following major funding cuts to welfare, social housing, child care, health and education programs.
